Trafalgar saw off the challenge of plucky second division outfit Ayton Reserves to secure their place in a Scarborough & District FA Sunday Cup final with Newlands.
Sean Exley smashed in a hattrick for the home side, with Liam Salt adding a brace of goals. Chris Dove, Mikey Barker and Nick Ellis, with the goal of the game, a thunderbolt from almost 30 yards out, wrapped up the scoring at 9-1 for Traf, along with an own goal.
The hosts led 5-1 at the interval, the villagers replying with a goal just before halftime, Paul Mills notching with a delightful lob.
Traf boss Col Jenkinson said: “Credit to Ayton Reserves, they never gave up, but I am thrilled to be in another final.
“Our stand-out player was Jamie Patterson.”
Ayton player-boss Steven Frederiksen added: “I am proud of my lads today, they all battled to the end and I cannot fault any of them for their efforts.
“We went at them from the start and played with a 3-4-3 formation, they scored three in the first 10 minutes and then a mistake from keeper Luke Dunn saw them add a fourth but we never let our heads drop.
“Nicko Dunn was our man of the match, with Jamie Her- itage and Shaun Dolan, who started in defence and moved to the wing as opposed to his usual keeper’s role.”
Traf will face arch-rivals
Newlands in the final as they were handed passage through from the semi-finals as Cayton could not raise a team. A Jonny Blakeston hattrick fired Ayton to a 6-2 win at Heslerton in Division One.
Blakeston notched from close-range after a goalmouth in the second minute, and Danny Appleby sent a freekick under the Heslerton wall to double Ayton’s lead in the 25th minute.
Five minutes before halftime Blakeston slotted home his second of the game to put Ayton in charge, and 10 minutes into the second half debutant Kyle O’Toole finished off a fine team move to wrap up the points for the visitors.
Blakeston completed his hat-trick just before the hour mark, finishing off a fine Tyson Stubbings cross, and although Heslerton pulled a goal back through Tom Richardson, Ayton restored their five-goal lead when keeper Andy Roebuck fired home from the penalty spot.
Roebuck then blotted his copybook with a late blunder as Heslerton struck a second consolation goal through Owen Banks.
The man of the match award for Ayton was given to Blakeston, while Richardson was star man for the hosts, with Danny Alexander and
James Pilmer also impressing.
Second division champions Angel earned a 6-1 home win against Scarborough Campus.
The hosts raced out of the blocks and were 3-0 up inside 20 minutes thanks to goals from Joe Gallagher, Macca Youngson and Josh Dolan.
Campus then grew into the game and on the half-hour mark Rafal Jackow’s shot slipped under stand-in keeper Ben Mason.
On the stroke of half-time a lovely pass from veteran striker David Bell gave Macca Riley a one-on-one with the Campus keeper, and Riley calmly slotted in his first goal of the season to put the game to bed.
After the interval, Angel made plenty of changes in positions with the subs coming on so the hosts lost their rhythm.
Despite this, Josh Wallace netted a fifth for the home side after a fine run down the right which he finished with a lovely strike that gave the keeper no chance.
Jackson Jowett scored the goal of the game with a 25-yard curling effort that sailed over the Campus goalkeeper giving him no chance.
Stand-in Angel boss Neil Thomas said: “My men of the match would be Macca Riley, Macca Youngson and Josh Dolan for their first-half displays.”
Campus’ man of the match was Ben Robinson after a solid performance.
