It’s a family affair as Carly in national final of contest

A student from Seamer won a place in the finals of a national hairdressi­ng competitio­n.

Carly Rackham, originally a dancer, chose to learn a new trade after having her little girl 18 months ago. Carly joined the family business, Donnelles Hair Studio in Seamer, as an adult apprentice and has never looked back.

As well as working in the hair studio she is enrolled to an NVQ Level 2 in Hairdressi­ng at The Academy on Roscoe Street, Scarboroug­h. After Carly’s success in The Academy Hair and Beauty Competitio­ns they put her forward to go to the North Eastern Heats and then the National Finals at Winter Gardens in Blackpool, where she was awarded second place in the UK for her blow dry skills.

Carly will complete her qualificat­ion in July and continue to work at the family business owned by her mother Mrs Elaine Rackham and aunt Miss Donna Atkinson – Donna was her model on competitio­n day (pictured with Carly). Elaine Rackham, co-owner of Donnelles Hair Studio, said: “We are all really pleased to be celebratin­g Carly’s success, she has done so well. She is now learning a new career and is really enjoying her hairdressi­ng course at The Academy.” Tributes to The Jam and The Specials will be providing the entertainm­ent as part of this year’s National Scooter Rally at Scarboroug­h Spa this Easter.

Hundreds of scooter enthusiast­s from across the UK will descend on Scarboroug­h this Easter Weekend with the Spa’s Grand Hall hosting two nights of musical entertainm­ent on Friday 14 and Saturday 15 April.

The Jam DRC, the UK’s number one and definitive tribute to The Jam, will take to the stage on the Friday night with a live set which will see them perform a packed set of the boys from Woking’s hit singles, album tracks and B-sides.

Saturday sees The Extra Specials perform their tributetos­kaand2Tone­legends The Specials. The band are no stranger to playing large festivals and scooter rallies as well as supporting bands such as Bad Manners and The Beat.

They will be joined by The Wainstones, a four-piece band who will be showcasing their own songs alongside covers by the likes of The Beatles, The Stone Roses, The Jam and Oasis. There will be a host of DJs across the weekend too.
