Get set for the new Young Stars Awards 2017.

The awards this year replace the Big Thank You Awards to focus on the efforts and achievements of the young people and youth organisations of Scarborough, Whitby, Filey and Hunmanby areas.

The awards were initiated by The Scarborough News and its sister newspapers, in conjunction with Scarborough Borough Council and the mayor of the borough of Scarborough Cllr Simon Green.

The venue has been generously provided by Scarborough Rugby Union Football Club and the main of sponsor of Young Stars is McCain Foods.

We also thank our other sponsors:

Boyes Stores YH Training Toymaster Yorkshire Coast Homes The Pauline Quirke Academy of Performing Arts

The Scarborough Children’s University supported by University of Hull Clock Handyman. The awards will be compered by former Miss Scar- borough and ex-TV presenter Carolyn Hodgson.

The event takes place at Scarborough Rugby Club on Monday April 3 for the nominated young people, their parents and nominees.

The categories are:

Act of Kindness, Charity Helpers, Courage over Physical Adversity, Young Volunteer, Young Entertainer, Special Recognition, plus an extra award, the Max Payne Memorial Award.

Thanks to everyone who made a nomination – the tales we received about the endeavours and deeds of our young people were stunning and all worthy of recognition.
