Champs Pier smash seven in Newlands success

West Pier striker Sean Exley smashed in a first-half hattrick as the Division One leaders powered to a 7-0 win at Newlands.

Jimmy Beadle gave Pier the early advantage with a couple of headed goals, then Tommy Barker made it 3-0 to Andy Spivey’s troops.

Exley then took centrestag­e, smashing in a thunderbol­t of a shot to end the game as a contest, then he fired in a free-kick before completing his hat-trick just prior to the interval.

The only goal of the second half was a delicious lob from Sam Garnett as Pier secured their 13th win in as many league games.

There were good performanc­es from Chris Nelson and Niall Gibb for the visitors, while keeper Neil Thomas also made a couple of fine saves.

Newlands bounced back with a 6-0 home win against

Westover on Monday night.

After a goalless first half, Drew McCoubrey’s double put the hosts in charge.

Midfielder Jack Ramos struck to put Park 3-0, with an unfortunat­e Jake Day own goal, along with efforts by Dan Freer and Michael Wilson wrapping up the scoring.

Edgehill kept in touch with the leaders thanks to a hard-earned 2-1 home win against Filey Town.

Danny Collins opened the scoring for the hosts on 20 minutes, but it took until the second half for the secondplac­ed side to double their lead, with sub Luke Jenkinson, on for Collins, scoring a superb goal, smashing a fierce half-volley into the top corner.

Liam Sugden pulled a deserved goal back for a Town side who never gave up and pushed Edgehill all the way.

Joe Gallagher in central midfield and centre-back Kurtis Henderson stood out for Edgehill, while Brandon Catherall impressed for Town.

Hunmanby United also stay in contention after coming back from 2-1 down to win 5-2 at home to Cayton, who were relegated by the result.

Dan Baldry put United ahead, but a double from Isaac Sands saw Cayton take a 2-1 lead, player-boss Michael Dennis pulling off some fine saves to keep his side in front.

Moving Ryan Baldry out of goal and up front seemed to spark United into life after the break, with goals from Dave Wedge (2), Chris Duley and Lee Micklethwa­ite securing the win for the home side.

Dan Baldry was the man of the match for the victors in central midfield and Dennis the star man for Cayton.

Curtis Rose smashed in five goals as Itis Itis Rovers strolled to an 8-0 win at Ayton to boost their challenge for the

Division Three title. Player-boss Mikey Barker also weighed in with two and Sam Broadbent the other as Rovers swept aside a weakened home side, the visitors also having shuffled their lineup for this match.

Glen O’Neill and Liam Buglass shared the man of the match for Rovers.

Leaders Sherburn remain the team to catch after their 5-1 home win against Hunmanby United Reserves.

Man of the match Harry Walmsley and the predatory Paul Mills smashed in a brace apiece for the hosts, with Matt Whitehall also on target, United’s star man Tom Brown having levelled for his side from a free-kick.

Edgehill 3rds are in the mix after player-boss Martin Cappleman’s four-goal blast saw them to a 6-2 win against Goalsports Reserves.

Club chairman John Larner scored from the spot for the victors, with a scorching 20-yarder from James Barratt completing the scoring.

A second-half brace from Zak Hansen secured a 2-0 win for Eastway Sports at Seamer Sports 3rds. Centre-back Joe Turner was Eastway’s star man. Fishburn Park Reserves-returned to winning ways with a 1-0 home derby success against Goldsborou­gh United.

Neil Hart’s first-half effort decided the contest, with Sam Wiggins the man of the match.

Both teams ended with 10 men as Commercial edged to a 1-0 win at Scalby Reserves.

Aaron Armstrong scored the crucial goal from closerange after a free-kick, while sub Ryan Somers was sent off for the visitors on 70 minutes and Scalby’s Richard Brice also received his marching orders five minutes from time.

Lee Plant was Commercial man of the match, right-back Ben Dolan and midfielder Matty Bourne Scalby’s stars.
