MacDonald stars as Under-12s edge thriller
Scarborough Athletic Under-12s played in a entertaining game away to Long Riston on Sunday, winning a 10-goal thriller 6-4.
Athletic dominated the first half, playing some fluent football and they were rewarded when Josh Kelly opened the scoring with a fantastic 20-yard free-kick into top corner.
It was soon 2-0 when Alfie Kendell smashed into the bottom corner after another free-kick from Kelly had been deflected into his path.
The second half was a different game with both sides going for the points leading to Riston scoring three goals and taking the lead.
But with 15 minutes left the character of the Athletic boys showed through as they went on to score four goals in quick succession.
Bevan Henry started the rout, heading over the keeper to level the scores.
From then it was the Cameron MacDonald show as he scored a powerful shot into the net.
He then won a penalty after taking on all the Riston defence and was brought down just in front of goal.
MacDonald got up and smashed the penalty into the roof of the net to make it 4-3.
The same man then won a second penalty, showing the same determination taking on the Riston defence again and going down just in sixyard box.
This time the boys insisted on goalkeeper Seb Smith taking the pen, he smashed the ball hard but it struck the post and McDonald was on hand again to knock the rebound in to make it 6-3
A late goal by Riston kept Boro on their toes, but a welldeserved three points with a 6-4 win with only nine players.

Under-13s travelled to North Ferriby United Greens.
Boro started the game brightly and were soon 1-0 up when Gianluca Mastrolanardo’s spectacular long-range strike found the top corner.
A few minutes later a Nathan Dolphin strike was parried by the keeper and Caleb Sheader was first to it to head home to make it 2-0.
Sheader and Dolphin’s great one-two ended with Sheader tucking the ball into the bottom corner to put Boro 3-0 up at the break.
Early in the second half North Ferriby pulled one back when a free-kick found its way into the far corner.
The next 15 minutes were a little scrappy for both sides, until Dolphin threaded a through-ball to Freddie Lockey, who left the defender flat-footed and rounded the keeper before finishing superbly into the bottom corner from a tight angle.
Oliver Hesketh was next to get on the scoresheet after skipping past two defenders and sending the keeper the wrong way the make it 5-1.
Five minutes from time Lockey squared the ball to Dolphin, who finished neatly into the bottom corner.
North Ferriby got a late consolation with a great strike to finish the game 6-2 to Boro.
