Scarborough Athletic Under 15s brought home some silver ware after a resounding victory in the Hull & District KOC up final.
Scarborough Athletic Under15s brought home some silverware after a resounding 5-1 victory over Sproatley Juniors in the Hull & District Knockout Cup final.
Both sides started quite nervously and it took an early intervention from Lewis McGrath to prevent a Sproatley striker getting his strike away on goal.
At the other end a Dan Simpson pass set up Jaydan Hindle but the keeper did well to smother the Scarborough striker’s effort.
A period of Sproatley pressure saw Jake Standing have to clear his lines for a corner, Jake Baldwin clearing the resulting danger.
Boro’s first real chance came on 15 minutes when Dan Simpson found himself free just inside the Sproatley box, his shot was well saved by the keeper and his follow-up on the rebound blazed over the crossbar.
Shortly afterwards Cameron Anderson in the Boro goal had to make an excellent save for a top corner bound effort.
Midway through the half Boro took the lead when Tom Wright’s slide-rule pass saw Kane Randerson-Wray beat the offside trap and run through to deftly place the
ball past the advancing keeper.
Sproatley though hadn’t got to the final just to make the numbers up and immediately fought back with Anderson again called on to make an impressive high save.
Hindle was a constant thorn in the side of the Sproatley defence and he was again unlucky to see his goalbound effort smothered by the keeper.
Sproatley had one glorious chance to equalise just before the break when a mixup in the Boro defence ended up with a strike narrowly missing the Boro upright, the score remained 1-0 at the break.
If the first half was quite even the second half belonged to the Boro and less than a minute in Hindle’s sweeping cross-field ball found Nathan Vidler on the right.
His accurate low driven cross found George Bramham at the far post and he gleefully smashed the ball into the roof of the net for 2-0. It gave Boro an advantage they were not about to surrender.
Boro almost added a third straight afterward when Vidler’s neat first touch from Finlay Marsh’s through-ball took him away from the defender, his powerful finish though smashed into the side netting.
Wright then grazed the Sproatley crossbar with a 20-yard thunderbolt after a neat interchange with Brad Smith and Nathan Parker.
It wasn’t all one-way traffic though and Harry Coldbeck was well-placed to break up one Sproatley raid on the Athletic goal.
Boro then went 3-0 up on 66 minutes with a brilliant solo goal from Randerson-Wray, who looked to have a lot to do when bringing the ball under control 30 yards out.
But he fended off a couple of challenges before rampaging into the box and placing a shot past the despairing dive of the Sproatley keeper to put Boro firmly in control.
Boro were flying now and two minutes later it was 4-0 when Zam Deans fed skipper Brad Smith, whose stunning first-time curled effort from outside the box found the top corner.
With time running out there was still time for Boro to make it 5-0.
Deans continued the role of provider, this time his accurate first-time cross found Vidler six yards out and he made no mistake with a well-placed header.
In injury-time Sproatley added a consolation to make the final score 5-1.
A cracking victory for the young Boro side whose performance in the second half particularly was great to watch with some superb goals scored to bring home the trophy for Athletic.
