Hepples hits the heights in Liverpool half marathon

Foster battles through the heat to record fine time in Edinburgh

Scarboroug­h Athletic Club were represente­d at the Rock & Roll series of races at

Liverpool, which consisted of a half marathon and a full marathon.

In the half marathon, which had over 8,000 finishers, Dale Hepples was first home in a personal best time of 91 minutes and 24 seconds.

He was followed by the only other club male Chris Bourne, who clocked 105.09 and was one of nine others that achieved a PB.

Fay Hethershaw led the Club’s 11 female runners in a most notable PB of 107.46 and was also up in 222nd of 4,561 women finishers.

She was followed by Lisa Bourne, who ran a 109.29 PB, and Nikki Hanson in 111.38

Two club members competed in their first ever race over the distance, as EmmaJane Birley clocked 123.08 and Lucy McNeil followed in 138.38.

Sally Elwick led the all the other club’s females with a PB of 118.44, while Jennie Trown in 119.02 PB,Dawn Trown’s 126.41, Katie Webster’s 126.46 PB, Sharon Corden in 130.07 also caught the eye.

The oldest club member was 61-year-old Liz Jones, who ran her best time for three years when finishing in 147.14

In the full marathon, Phil Markham bettered this year’s London Marathon time by 14 minutes when clocking 3 hours 7 minutes.

Lisa Baker, who only started running 18 months ago, completed her very first marathon in a notable 5 hours 5 minutes.

Three club members competed at the Edinburgh festival of road races.

Warren Foster competed in his seventh race over the marathon distance this year.

This was his third road event and at which he finished in 3 hours 41 minutes which reflected the hot and humid weather during the event.

Juliette Pilgrim, who was competing in only her second marathon, finished in 4 hours 26 which was a personal best time and 18 minutes improvemen­t.

In the half marathon, Em- ma Foster came close to a personal best in her second race over the distance with a 2 hour 6 minute clocking.

Three club members joined 40,000 runners taking part in races over various distances at Manchester.

The start of the Great Manchester Run which was over 10 kilometres and attracted 32,000, included not just a minute’s silence but a recording of Oasis’ Don’t Look Back In Anger .

Rachel Gyte finished well up the massive field in 49 minutes 59 seconds, which was her best time for three years.

In the accompanyi­ng half marathon, Glen Shelton and Alison Wiles both made a good event and distance debut.

Shelton clocked 109.38 and Wiles 155.37.
