Athletic’s midfield recruit Daly planning promotion double
Scarborough Athletic new boy Ross Daly is hoping to complete a quickfire double of promotions from the Evo-Stik North.
The midfielder was part of the Farsley Celtic side that won the division’s play-offs at the end of last term and sealed a step up to the Evo-Stik Premier.
But Daly has since been hunted down by Boro boss Steve Kittrick and now he has his sights set on a second promotion, but this time in a red shirt.
He said: “Steve (Kittrick) was very persistent, he was on the phone to me all the time to try and get me to commit.
“I don’t mind that though, it shows the passion he has for the club.
“I’ve had some great battles with Scarborough down the years that have gone either way, now I’m looking forward to being a part of the club at such an exciting time.
“Scarborough have great fans as well. When we played at Bridlington they really got behind the team.
“Hopefully, with the club moving to Scarborough, they’ll be our 12th man next season
“They are such a noisy bunch and I want us to deliver for them.”
Daly is aware of how tough it will be to get out of the EvoStik North next season, but he is still in confident mood.
He added: “I’ve been promoted with Bradford Park Avenue before and we were promoted with Farsley last season, so I know what it takes.
“It is a tough league, especially with South Shields coming in.
“They will be tipped as everyone’s favourites, but I’m confident that we will be right up there in the mix.
“Scarborough came close last season, missing out in the play-offs and now Steve is building a very good squad of players for the new campaign.
“At Farsley we had a strong starting 11 and then a strong bench because you will always pick up injuries.
“It is important that we have that strength next season.
“Steve has been around the non-league circuit for a number of years so he knows all about that.
“He is ambitious and so are the club, which is one of the main reasons I joined.”
Daly had been courted by a number of other teams, but he felt that Boro stood out.
“I felt I needed a fresh start having been at Farsley for a few years,” he added
“There was a fair bit of interest, but Scarborough stood out to me because they are a big club and one that wants to push on.”
