Danby’s delight at switch
Joe Danby can’t wait to turn out for his hometown team once again.
The 25-year-old has been added to the Scarborough Athletic squad by Steve Kittrick after spending time at Bridlington Town and Pickering Town in recent seasons.
Danby had previously come through the Scarborough FC school of excellence and then progressed through to play for the now defunct Scarborough Town team.
He said: “It is a pretty good feeling, especially with the club moving back to play in Scarborough.
“It was frustrating when the old club folded because I was right on the cusp of adult football, but it is great to get my chance again.
“ItwashardtoleavePickering because I’ve had five good years there, but I just couldn’t turn down this opportunity.
“I haven’t played in front of massive crowds before, the atmosphere will just be on a different level.”
Danby brings plenty to the Boro squad, as he can play anywhere down the left and in recent campaigns has contributed a number of goals.
He added: “I’m just hoping to break into the team and keep playing football.
“I can play anywhere down the left, so there is plenty of opportunity for me.
“At Pickering I was playing either at left-back or on the left of a three in defence, but I still scored 14 goals last season, which isn’t a bad return.
“It won’t be easy because Scarborough’s captain Dave Merris plays at left-back, but I’ll be hoping to force my way in somewhere and stay in the team.”
