Osborne eager to end silverware drought at Athletic

-

Leon Osborne’s decision to join Scarborough Athletic was based loosely around the chance to end his silverware drought.

The striker has yet to bag a medal during a playing career that has seen him turn out for Bradford City, Harrogate Town, Matlock, Farsley and Bradford Park Avenue among others.

And having watched Boro from afar last term, the 27-year-old is confident that his barren run will be concluded.

“I just want to win something, it is doing my head in,” said Osborne.

“I’m promotionless and I really don’t like it.

“I’m very close with another of the club’s new signings Luke Dean and we both have the same problem, decent CVs, but no promotions.”

Osborne is also looking forward to having the vociferous Boro crowd on his side when he turns out at the new Scarborough Sports Village.

He added: “I’ve always liked playing against Scarborough because the fans are spot on.

“It is one of those when you decide to go and get the ball inside a few times to get away from the stick.

“It will be nice to have the fans behind me, I’ll be having a bit of a chuckle at a few of the players we are against because it will be their turn.

“It’ll be nice to play in front of a big crowd again having sampled it before when I was at Bradford City.

“Playing in front of a lot of fans is something you get used to and I’ve missed it. You feel it in your chest when you get on the field and it 100% makes you play better.”

Osborne is now just raring to get pre-season underway.

“I haven’t looked forward to a pre-season this much in a long, long time,” he said.

“The good thing for me is I know most of the lads already, which makes things easier.

“I just want to be playing football again now.

“It isn’t going to be easy next season, but if we give 100% then I think we’ll stand a very good chance.”
