Around 14 months ago, Simon Clark left his home near Inverness to run 5,000 miles along the entire British coast.

The 57-year-old was inspired to take part in the gruelling challenge where he runs, camps, takes offers to sleep on floors while keeping up with his architectural job so every penny raised can go to charity.

Simon, who runs from 15 to 30 miles a day, passed through Scarborough where he met up with an old school friend he hadn’t seen for 40 years.

He said: “I had the most amazing time in Scarborough. I got to see Jeremy Corbyn and I was able to find somewhere to sleep really easily in The Crescent gardens. I got settled and went straight to sleep so Scarborough is top of the league.”

Simon was inspired to do the challenge after reading Rosie Swale’s book Just a Little Run Around the World. He spends a total of £20 on food a day and has remarkably spent only £1,500 on accommodation since the beginning in March 2016. Simon went an incredible 146 consecutive days at one point without paying for a hotel.

Simon is hoping to raise £20,000 for the Ecologia Youth Trust which works with disadvantaged young people to realise their potential.

He said: “I am grateful for people who have donated. Scarborough was around the 4,500 mile mark so I’m getting there. I’ve loved the experience so far but I’ll enjoy getting back home, which I’ve rented out while I’ve been away.”
