Scarborough singer through to the live finals of BBC show

-

A Scarborough singer will appear in the live finals of Saturday-night TV talent show, Pitch Battle.

Robyn Keech soared through to the final with the group Leeds Contemporary Singers in the first week of the new show.

The former St Augustine’s and Yorkshire Coast College pupil appeared along with seven friends from Leeds College of Music where the 22-year-old recently graduated from.

Robyn said: “It’s just insane, it’s such a surreal experience. All of us are just from small home towns and now we’re performing in the final.”

The singer, who lives in Northstead, realised she wanted to follow a career in music when she got her first solo in a performance in year six at St Martin’s Primary School.

She is now setting up her own business RK Music Workshop to bring innovative workshops back into the community and make some noise around Scarborough.

She is now deep in a gruelling rehearsal regime as the group prepare for the final on Saturday. She said: “It’s one of the hardest experiences of my life so far but it’s one of the most rewarding.”

The live final of Pitch Battle is being aired at 7.25pm on 22 July where host Mel Giedroyc will be joined by judges Gareth Malone, Kelis and guest judge, singer songwriter Deke Sharon. Robyn added: “I’d like to ask people to vote and enjoy it and to encourage people to get involved with music.”
