Students celebrated the culmination of years of hard work at the University of Hull’s Scarborough Campus graduation ceremony.
The event, which took place at the Spa Complex, was a poignant moment in the history of the university as this is the last time Hull University students will graduate in Scarborough.
From September, the Filey Road campus will be home to Scarborough TEC, formerly Yorkshire Coast College.
The ceremony featured students who were graduating in education, media, English, creative writing, healthcare, business and environmental and marine science.
Dr Rowan Oliver, Goldfrapp drummer for six years, and now a lecturer in music and technology at the university, told students how much he had enjoyed being based in Scarborough and joked about his Top of the Pops appearances.
“It’s great to just come out of this venue and see the sea,” he said, adding that former students had worked on music for Rihanna, Ed Sheeran, Red Bull and one had become the Pop Idol in Finland.
Former MP and university chancellor Baroness Virginia Bottomley spoke of the importance of the occasion, which was a mix of formality and celebration, and added a personal message.
“It’s wonderful to be here, and I’m a believer in girl power,” commenting on the majority number of females graduating.
“And I must say you dress very glam – no male chancellor could say that,” she added to amusement among the student and parents as she wished all the graduands success in their careers
