Beadle’s delight after firing home first goal at new base

-

Jimmy Beadle was over the moon after scoring Scarborough Athletic’s first goal at the new Flamingo Land Stadium on Saturday.

This was something of a double for the Scarborough lad, who bagged Boro’s last goal at the McCain Stadium.

Boro lost 4-1 on their return to the town, but it didn’t take the shine off things for Beadle.

He said: “I was buzzing, it was something I’ve been thinking about while I’ve been training for months.

“To score the last goal at the old ground and the first one at the new ground is amazing for me.

“Luckily I was there to tap it in, but I nearly managed to put it over the bar.

“It was written in the stars really, but I think I deserve it because I’ve put a lot of work in over the past few months to get where I am now.

“Games like this are going to bring me and the rest of the lads on loads because it was such hard work.

“They were young lads so they just didn’t stop, you have to dig in and work hard to match them.”

Boro boss Steve Kittrick wasn’t overly impressed with the result on the day, but he was delighted with how the return home went.

Kittrick is now hoping that the fans continue to pour through the gates as pre-season and the new Evo-Stik North campaign progresses.

He said: “It has been a good test for us, but it was more about the occasion rather than the game itself.

“Personally you don’t like getting beaten 4-1, but they were full-time lads and that was only our second game of pre-season.

“It was a great day though and the club is back home now, which is the main thing.

“I’d like to thank everyone for coming and I hope they stick around because there is more to come from us.

“We just have to keep winning games when things get underway, if we do that then I’m sure the people of the town will get behind us.”
