27 days.

Tom’s family and friends all gathered at the finish line on July 23 after nine days of running to cheer him on where he ran straight over to his emotional grandma.

After the event family and friends were invited to a fundraiser at Brompton Hall where Tom as able to get a much-needed sit down.

Before the challenge Tom had set an ambitious target of raising £11,000, the cost of one full day of Saint Catherine’s services.

After completing the challenge he has raised £9,500 with money still coming in.

His grandad passed away on Boxing Day 2015 and Tom says he has never forgotten the support Saint Catherine’s gave to his family and it is something he will always be thankful for.

Tom, who currently lives in Leeds but is moving back to Scarborough, said: “My grandad was a big influence growing up. He was always coming to watch me play sport and we spent a lot of time at his home in Hutton Buscel.

“I have some great memories of my grandad and the memories at Saint Catherine’s are happy too, that’s why I decided to do something.”

Tracy Calcraft, fundraising and marketing director at Saint Catherine’s, said: “Our supporters constantly amaze us with the lengths they go to raise much needed funds for patient care, but this particular challenge has surpassed many in recent years.

“On behalf of Saint Catherine’s we would like to say congratulations and thank you to Tom. We are thrilled that the money Tom has raised will provide much-needed Saint Catherine’s services in memory of his grandad.”
