Phoenix bow out of League in shock exit

-

The Scarborough and District Saturday League have been dealt a blow after one of their new member clubs quit before even fulfilling a fixture.

Phoenix FC, made up of last year’s Under-16s side, were supposed to take up a position in Division Two after being voted in at this year’s AGM.

However, they’ve quit the league just weeks after.

Their position wasn’t vacant for long though, Old Victoria stepping in to take their place in the second division.

First division clubs will play each other three times this season, after some confusion following the AGM all clubs affected voted on the matter at this week’s committee meeting.

Seven of the eight teams in the first division voted for 21 games.

A draw took place regarding the venue of every club’s third game.

Edgehill, Newlands, West Pier and Flamborough will play three games at home, with their other four being away.

Seamer, Goal Sports, Hunmanby Unitd and Filey Town will play four home games and three away from home.

Long-standing servant Keith Webster also stepped down from the committee.

A league statement said: “Keith has been a great servant of the league and put in many years service.

“He will still be helping out on the leagues cup finals.

“The committee would like to place on record a massive thank you for all the hard work Keith has done for the league.”
