1Tours Flamborough Lighthouse every day during school holidays apart from Friday Staff from Sewerby Hall and Gardens offer visitors informative guided tours of this iconic structure daily between noon and 4pm. The lighthouse is located on Flamborough Head and offers views over Bridlington Bay and the Heritage Coast. Visitors can climb the 119 steps to the top of the lighthouse to see the magnificent views of the surrounding area, all the while learning about the history of the lighthouse and Trinity House. Tours cost adults £4.40, children and over 60s £3.30 and families (two adults and two children) £13.40. 2Thornton Thornton le Dale Show le Dale, Wednesday August 9 On display will be many fine examples of local craft skills typically including wood turning, furniture making, handcrafted greetings cards, pottery, silk printing, painting and dyeing, hand embroidered pictures, jewellery making, candle making, stained glass, fine art, cold cast bronze, handmade soap, patchwork and quilting etc. There are long established classes for cattle, sheep, pigs, goats and horses and an everpopular fur and feather section. Traditional rural crafts not surprisingly figure prominently.
Plus open sheepdog trials. Live music is now a wellestablished and highly popular attraction at the Show.
Featured bands this year include Dave Clegg Swing Band, Ali and the Beachcombers and Railroad Hobos. Deliciously Yorkshire marquee and Made in Yorkshire marquee. The annual Scarborough Cricket Festival will start on Sunday when the county side will be hosting Essex. The newly promoted side are led off the field by former popular Yorkshire pair Chris Silverwood and Anthony McGrath.
VIP visitors often include Dickie Bird and sometimes Geoffrey Boycott. Parking near the ground gets full so early arrival is recommended. William Street is one of the biggest and nearest car parks for the cricket. Admission charges apply
Dalby Duck Dash Dalby Forest, near Pickering, Sunday August 6 from 11am to 3pm The Dalby Duck Dash day is a regular fixture in the Forest annual events calendar and is a firm family favourite. This year’s takes place on Sunday at the Visitor Centre play area.
You can buy tickets at the information point from 10am, then watch your ducks paddle to glory starting at 11am – the first three ducks in each race win a prize. Tickets are £1 per duck with proceeds going to the Friends of Dalby Forest. Make the most of your visit. The eco-friendly Visitor Centre is one of the Forestry Commission’s first visitor centres with sustainability as its main focus. Facilities within the centre include an information desk, Forestry Commission shop, hands-on interactive exhibition area, meeting room, external and internal toilets and Treetops Restaurant with terrace. The Visitor Centre sells maps and booklets about the various walks and cycle trails within the forest suitable for all the family. Admission charges apply

We’ll even save your pictures on to a disc for you. Available every weekend and every day during school holidays. There’s no need to book for this activity.
Nature Treasure Trail: Complete the trail quiz to be in with a chance of winning a pair of binoculars worth £55. There is no need to book for this event.

Muston Scarecrow Festival Muston, until Sunday August 6 Spot the men and women of straw in locations throught the village between Scarborough and Filey. Each year the numbers of visitors to the village during the festival increases and it’s existence is now known worldwide. In 1999 a Muston Millennium Committee was formed in anticipation of the forthcoming celebrations. It was during one of the meetings that Councillor Godfrey Allanson, Muston ‘born and bred’, put forward a suggestion.
A close friend of his had mentioned to him about a scarecrow festival that was held in his village of Sawley near Ripon every year and how popular it was. He said to Godfrey, “Why don’t you hold one in Muston?” Godfrey took this idea to the meeting and the committee took up the proposal. The first Muston Scarecrow Festival was held in 1999.
