Huddersfield too strong for East Coasters

-

The Yorkshire Inter District Competition took place on the East Coast with 12 local crown green bowlers pitting their skills against the best of Yorkshire.

East Coast team were drawn to play first two games at Bridlington Bay BC and went on to beat Harrogate followed by Yorkshire Juniors to make the semi-finals.

This took place at Dukes Park, where the opponents were Bradford.

A brilliant start was provided by indoor specialist Jack Bird, who won his game 21-0 with some magnificent play.

Bradford never recovered from this with a comfortable win for the East Coast.

The final was to prove one step too far though with Huddersfield the opponents at a rain-affected green at Hunmanby.

Any local knowledge was lost in the conditions with Huddersfield running out easy winners with Billy Holdsworth, who plays for Hunmanby, being the East Coast’s only winner.

Holdsworth was the player of the day, winning all his four games but all 12 players can be well pleased with the day.

The final of the Hospital Cup will be held at Bridlington Bay’s Sewerby green on Sunday.

The competition starts at 10am. Dress code applies.

There are some intriguing preliminary and first round contests, including partners from Robin Hood’s Bay Tim Purcell against Sue Green and doubles partners Ian Hadden and Steve Dover fighting it out.
