Housebuilder’s £1,000 for Edgehill association

-

A Scarborough family support charity which launched a new scheme dedicated to the elderly community, has received £1,000 from a housebuilder.

Edgehill Community Association received the donation from Persimmon Homes Yorkshire through the builder’s successful Community Champions programme.

Each month the business donates up to £1,000 each to two groups who are supporting the over 70s.

In response to the current pandemic the charity changed its offering and is working alongside mental health charity, Mind, to help support the elderly and vulnerable community. These services include shopping, providing welfare visits and keeping in regular contact through phone calls. The recent donation will help fund the charity’s new care packages.

Sophie Hall, from Edgehill Community Association, said: “We are delighted to receive Persimmon Homes’ donation, it will make a huge difference to our new care packages.

“These special parcels were designed to help elderly people feel more connected to the community and cared for, as well as provide them with items to keep them entertained.

“The parcel contains items such as; toiletries, books, craft kits, jigsaws, CD audiobooks, magazines plants as well as treats including sweets, hot chocolate and afternoon tea with cakes.

“We have pretty much used all our stocks, so Persimmon’s donation was very much a welcomed surprise.”
