Scarborough’s iconic cliff railway next to the Grand Hotel has reopened – with safety measures in place. Updates have brought Central Tramway into the 21st century and helped to prepare the team for improved post-Covid business. Operations manager Andrew Martin said: “Our first priority at the business has always been safety and in the current climate this meant introducing some new systems which we hope will reassure our visitors that we are doing everything we can to maintain this level of care.”

These changes include a new contactless pay system, social distancing measures, reducing the capacity of each ride, and clear signs around both top and bottom stations to help direct the flow of passengers through the buildings. Passengers must wear a face mask when they travel.
