FC Rosette have resigned from the Scarborough & District Saturday League, with a lack of commitment and availability of players forcing them to have to call it quits.

A lack of numbers on the playing front forced the management trio of Bill Cammish, Paul Scott and Al Wray to pull the plug on the club, who were formed in 1998 and recently won the Division Two title.

Club secretary and joint manager Cammish said: “Me, Scotty and Al Wray decided to resign largely because of lack of commitment from players not being available and not letting us know.

“There was a number of times last season we didn’t have a team but were saved by the weather.

“We asked if anyone would want to take over the running of the team, but there was no response.

“It’s really disappointing to have to fold a club with so much history like Rosette, but we didn’t have much of a choice and didn’t want to enter the league, pay FA affiliation fees and then have to resign.”

Long-serving player Dan Thompson is devastated that the club have folded.

He said: “Gutted that it has ended like this.

“Great set of lads and made many friends for life.

“Lots of highs and lows, the biggest high being winning the league a few years ago.

“Can’t thank Bill, Scotty and Al enough for what they have done for the club last number of years. Sad day for local football.”

Saturday League secretary John Orrah is disappointed to see a long-serving Saturday League club Rosette calling it quits.

“It’s a massive blow to the league to lose an established and long-standing club like Rosette,” said Orrah.

“To think they won the Division Two title recently and have now folded is very disappointing and I feel sorry for the likes of Bill who have put so much time in to running the club over the last few years.

“It’s a big blow to everyone involved losing a club like Rosette.”
