Lions on call and just a phone call away

-

Filey people have been able to get help with just one phone call thanks to a group dedicated to helping their community.

Filey Lions leafleted every house in the town when the lockdown started to let people know they could be called on for support for anyone who was vulnerable or self-isolating. Since then, they have carried out more than 1,000 callouts using the club’s bus.

At the start they were operating seven days a week, usually carrying out shopping or dropping off or picking up prescriptions.

They have also donated PPE equipment to Scarborough Hospital and Hylands Retirement Home in Filey, The Woodlands at Primrose Valley, Pinfold Lodge in Hunmanby and Hazelgarth Lodge in Hunmanby.

And they donated a Samsung tablet and an iPad to Silver Birches care home on Station Avenue to help residents keep in touch with friends and relatives while no visitors are allowed.

John Casey from the group said: “Our club is well respected and well supported by the Filey public so we were more than happy to give our support to them in these trying times.” The Lions helpline now runs five days a week and will close on July 31. Anyone who lives in Filey who needs their support can call them on 07493 475865.
