Beadle: Walshaw and Dawson won’t be loss to dressing room
New assistant manager insists club will be better off without departing pair
Player-assistant manager Jimmy Beadle has urged the club to move on and stick together after the shock departure of Tommy Taylor, James Walshaw and Chris Dawson.
Beadle, who has returned to the club as Darren Kelly’s number two, insists the dressing room will be a better place going forward after the muchpublicised departure of the trio to big-spending Buxton last week and urged the fans to stay united behind the manager and the side.
“I don’t see Walshaw and Dawson as a big loss to the dressing room,” said Beadle.
“We’ve signed Nathan Cartman and it’s easy to forget we have the likes of Michael Coulson and Ryan Blott as well and they’ll score goals for us.
“I’m gutted to see Tommy leave as he was a big player for us, the fans loved him and he was a good lad to have about the dressing room.
“But at the end of the day, we don’t want players here who don’t want to play for Scarborough.
“We’re better off having a close-knit group of lads who are hungry and wanting to play in front of 1,000-plus fans every week and not play for the money.
“It was probably the right time for Wally and Chris Dawson to go to be honest, let’s get some fresh, hungry lads in the side and push on now.
“It’s so important that we stick together though and everyone gets behind Darren and the players.”
Beadle describes being appointed assistant manager at Boro as one of the best moments of his life and he can’t wait to get cracking in his new role.
“To be honest becoming assistant manager and coming back to Boro is one of the proudest moments of my life, it is a role that I take incredibly seriously and I just hope I can do it justice,” said Beadle.
“We’re hoping to get back on the training pitch from Saturday, which would be great as it has been a long time now, it would be nice to meet back up with the lads and get going again.”
Beadle is also working hard on his fitness levels in a bid to play a role on the pitch as well as in the dug-out this season, but insists he’ll be disappointed if he has to play a key role come the start of the campaign.
“I’ve been working hard on my fitness levels during this period away from training and matches, doing sessions with Chris Stubbings from Sniper Fitness,” added Beadle.
“Darren told me not to rush it and drop my weight drastically so I am doing it a little slower than I have done in the past, but I feel good and am looking forward to getting a solid pre-season under my belt and contributing here and there next season.
“I have to say though, while it would be nice to have a run in the cups and come off the bench here and there, something will have gone wrong if I have to play a key role given the quality of some of the players we have at the club.”
