Tributes have been pouring in from family and friends for the much-loved 23-year-old Luke Burton who “lit up the room”.

Luke, who grew up in Filey, died when his motorbike and a double decker bus collided in Stonepit Lane.

His father Brett, who was riding in front of his son when the accident happened, said Luke’s death “has brought Filey to its knees”.

“People just can’t believe it,” said Mr Burton.

“It makes me so proud that he was so well-loved. He was just amazing. His heart was massive. He always made the most of everything. He lived his life to the full and more.

“He was outgoing and if he put his mind to something, he would get that done. He was brilliant. He was just a diamond.”

Luke grew up in Filey with Mr Burton, mum Ann-Marie Taylor and his four sisters – Nicole, Jessica, Lily and Gracie.

He followed in his father’s footsteps to work on offshore oil rigs where he had a promising career ahead of him.

Also like Mr Burton, he was a volunteer crewman for Filey RNLI for several years.

Filey RNLI press officer John Ward said: “He was a very good and popular crew member.

“He always had a smile on his face and he had that banter and wit that he could respond to anything,”

Luke played for Filey Town FC and Filey Cricket Club and was a keen supporter of both clubs.

Mr Burton said Luke enjoyed spending time at Filey Sports Club with his family and friends.

His cousin Matthew Dickens said: “He was one of the loveliest lads I’ve ever met.

“He was always the first one on the dance floor and the last one off it. He was always cracking jokes and always smiling.

“You always wanted him to be there because you knew you’d have a good time if he was.”

David Brannan, captain of Filey Cricket Club, said: “Luke was always making people laugh and was the life and soul of a party.”

Stephen Eblet, who helped run a children’s football club where Luke used to play, said: “He was a character. He had a jovial, friendly and bubbly personality that is gifted to so few.

“I knew him as a friendly and popular lad, who was loyal to his friends and wouldn’t hurt a fly.

“Whenever our paths did cross and we had a little chat or a bit of banter, he made me leave him with a smile, a grin or plain laughter, every single time.

“I don’t know of many people who can do that. RIP Luke Burton. You sure made many people smile.”

Many of Luke’s loved ones gathered at Filey Sports Club on Saturday to celebrate his life.

An online fund raiser has been started in his memory for the club and has already raised more than £4,000. To donate, visit https://www.justgiving. com/crowdfunding/lukebsportsclub
