Light On The Shore
TOP PICK: Hidden Door Presents The Jesus And Mary Chain, Leith Theatre, August 14 The festival moves into exciting new territory with an innovative contemporary music programme called Light On The Shore, running from August 9-25 with a series of collaborative partners including Celtic Connections, Neu! Reekie! and Hidden Door.
The new strand takes place at the brilliant venue of Leith Theatre, which lay empty for 30 years until volunteers from Hidden Door brought it back to life for their annual grassroots arts festival.
Hidden Door’s own night for Light On The Shore with Edinburgh Gin Seaside brings Scottish indie rock band The Jesus And Mary Chain to the venue, as well as a series of support acts, film and visual art installations.
Other highlights from the strand include Alan Cumming presents Club Cumming, as well as live music nights with King Creosote, Mogwai and Django Django.
Arts collective Neu! Reekie! curate two typically unconventional events, and Celtic Connections bring together Julie Fowlis from North Uist and Le Vent du Nord (The North Wind) from Quebec.
Following a sell-out festival show in 2016, Karine Polwart brings her Scottish Songbook to the festival, and she’ll be joined on stage by a six-piece band for some of the nation’s favourite pop songs.
