Dundee publishers DC Thomson relive their shipping heritage with the launch of an exciting new voyage...
THE publishers of The Scots Magazine, DC Thomson, have been giving Scots something excellent to read for generations. Now they’re going back to their shipping roots and offering readers a chance for a once-in-a-lifetime cruise.
DC Thomson Travel, the reader travel division of DC Thomson Media, is working with Cruise & Maritime Voyages to offer a special sailing on board the cruise-liner Magellan to its customers. This partnership has been set up to promote the Best of Norway and Scottish Islands tour in the summer of 2020.
Holidaymakers will board the Magellan in Dundee before setting off to see the best sights of Norway and our own memorable northern isles.
The publishing company’s shipping history goes back to the 19th century when William Thomson established the Thomson Line. Following his success in business, he looked to the seas and purchased a stake in a sailing ship. His involvement escalated over the years when he purchased more vessels. Eventually, with a fleet of 28, the Thomson family was responsible for one of the most invaluable shipping firms in the world and provided vital aid to South Africa during the Boer War.
DC Thomson chairman Andrew Thomson is delighted that the company is taking to the waves again.
“It’s wonderful to see the company realigning with its heritage by returning to the seas,” he says.
“When William Thomson established the Thomson Shipping Line I’m sure he didn’t contemplate that more than 100 years later, DC Thomson would be transporting passengers by ship around the Scottish Isles and Norway.
“This kind of diversification of the business is a great fit for the company.”
