FOOD: I cannot praise the chefs highly enough for their presentation skills. Every dish that came out of the kitchen was a marvel and almost too good to eat. I had the roasted fig and feta salad – pictured – to start with and venison for main, while my dining partner chose mackerel to start and pan-roasted stone bass for main. Every mouthful was a wonder – an expert combination of textures and tastes. 9/10

SERVICE: It is always a pleasure to dine out when your server is passionate about the food being served. Marcin was exceptional, and could not do enough for us. My dining partner has a few allergies, and Marcin took the time to go through each dish option with her, suggesting substitutes. All the staff were extremely attentive. 10/10

AMBIENCE: The floor-to-ceiling windows look out over the skyline of Edinburgh, with a view out to the Forth on the other side. The music is pleasant, but not obtrusive, and the restaurant, although open-plan, is not noisy. 9/10

VALUE FOR MONEY: For high-quality fayre you expect to pay a little more, but the prices here are extremely reasonable. A deal of two courses and a cocktail for £28 runs midweek, and the dinner menu includes five courses and a glass of prosecco for a very reasonable £40. 9/10

FACILITIES: Harvey Nichols’ Forth Floor – named for its view over the river – also holds a brasserie, bar, and chocolate lounge as well as a food market. The toilets are clean, but a slight wait is to be expected. 9/10
