The Scots Magazine

Spring To Action

- @Scotsmaged ROBERT WIGHT, Editor mail@scotsmagazine.com

MARCH is possibly my favourite month. After enduring a long, dark winter it’s the time I really notice the lengthening days. It seems to me in March we often get a settled, dry, sunny – even warm – spell. A promise of the summer to come.

Yet in the mountains, winter often holds sway still, with iced-up gullies and rock-hard fields of old snow, making for epic Alpine days out. March is very much the best of both worlds.

And it’s not just the outdoor world that stirs to life in March. It feels like the whole country gives itself a bit of a shake, with a host of fun festivals and exciting events being held.

In your favourite magazine this month, you’ll find plenty of inspiration for things to see and do.

We have an excellent interview with the riotously funny Janey Godley, ahead of her appearance at the Glasgow International Comedy Festival.

We celebrate the best of the spoken word at Stanza, St Andrews’ poetry festival, while also taking a look at some incredible, original work at the not-to-be-missed Borders Art Fair.

Spring also sees the return to our screens of hit US television series Outlander. The Scots-inspired historical romance is back for a fifth season.

The show is famously filmed in Scotland and on page 54 we take you on a terrific tour of the locations – and on page 55 you’ll find details of how to get your hands on our fantastic unofficial guide Outlander Country – Myths, Legends & Locations. Packed with loads of fascinating features and incredible facts, it’s a must-buy for any fan of the show.

And if you need an excuse to head outside, March is also the last chance to enter our competition to become The Scots Magazine Photographer of the Year 2020.

The final category of the contest is landscape photography. You’ll find entry details on page 29.

So what are you waiting for? Get snapping!
