Wacky Salon A Question Of Perception
“One of the ways scientists carry out research into the mind is to explore how the brain can be fooled,” Duncan says. “The Wacky Salon is an empty room built at an angle of 20 degrees. When visitors step inside, they immediately have their sense of balance thrown off. It turns out our sense of balance relies on three sensory systems – our eyes, inner ears and our body’s sense of where it is in space, known as proprioception. The Wacky Salon causes these sensory systems to send conflicting information to our brains. The sensation is so bizarre that this is one of our most popular exhibits.”
