Sprint Track Bodyworks

-

“This is one of the most popular exhibits and it’s clear to see why – people get competitive when it comes to sport! Visitors measure how fast they can sprint a short distance of five metres (16 feet), measured by beams of invisible infrared light,” Duncan says. “You might assume the race comes down to how fast someone can run. But with such a short distance, one of the variables that sets people apart is actually the reaction time from the starting pistol. When this sound is detected by a sprinter’s ears it needs to be processed by the brain before the signal is sent to the muscles to start runnning.”
