The nightingal­e’s song is often used in literature and poetry as a metaphor for love, beauty and for poetry itself.

The first live radio broadcast of birdsong was of a nightingal­e in “concert” with the cellist, Beatrice Harrison, in 1924.

Nightingal­es are able to produce more than 1000 different sounds, by comparison skylarks can produce 340 and blackbirds around 100.
