In a 2015 survey by wild flora charity Plantlife, the Scottish public voted the primrose as their favourite flower. The bluebell came out on top in England.

The flower with the world’s largest bloom is the rafflesia arnoldii, found in the rainforest­s of Indonesia. The bloom can grow up to one metre (three feet) across.

It is estimated that insects originated on Earth about 480 million years ago, but flowering plants only appeared around 130 million years ago.
