Time To Relax
Scone is a haven for creative types of all ages
PERTHSHIRE is an area synonymous with outdoor adventure, and rightly so – from kayaking on Loch Tay to a trek up the impressive Schiehallion. Sometimes though, a holiday requires a little downtime, and For Art Sake in Scone is just the place for it.
The For Art Sake studio is dedicated to all things arts and crafts but the studio’s main attraction is pottery painting. Visitors will be met with an amazing selection of things to paint; a new teapot for the kitchen table, a mug for Dad’s birthday or a maybe a unicorn-shaped souvenir from your Scottish adventure – they are the national animal after all!
Pauline Smith, founder of For Art Sake, opened the studio in 2008 and is always on hand to welcome both locals and visitors.
“We offer children and adults a fun-filled painting experience,” Pauline says.
An artist and ceramicist herself, Pauline is more than happy to help. Whether you need some artistic inspiration or guidance perfecting a trickier pattern, Pauline has the answer.
She says it is an opportunity for parents to have a wee bit of time by themselves. Sessions are great fun for all ages but she is happy to keep the kids entertained for an hour or so while the parents head off for a peaceful walk.
“I am happy for kids to be dropped off with me or for the family to stay and enjoy time together.”
For the more dedicated artist, For Art Sake also offers longer workshops. Adults can enjoy classes on pointillism – painting using small dots of colour – and kids can try their hand at decoupage, canvas painting or clay building.
Things in the studio have had to adapt following lockdown but Pauline is thrilled to be able to welcome back her customers and budding artists. “Booking is essential and we are running on slightly reduced dates and times so check the
website for when is best.”
