Tributes pouring in for tragic mother and her two-year-old son

German A MAn is due to appear at edinburgh Sheriff Court today charged with murder, following the deaths of a mother and her two-year-old son.

The bodies of Janet Lockhart, 29, and her son Michael were discovered in a house in Bonnyrigg, Midlothian, on Saturday evening.

Police Scotland said last night that a 32-year-old man had been charged with murder after discovery of the bodies.

A “family acquaintan­ce” raised concerns about the family and police broke into the property in South Chesters Lane around 8:30pm.

Friends of the mother and her son have now paid tribute to the pair, with neighbours calling the deaths “heartbreak­ing.” Flowers have been laid outside their home, which remains cordoned off by police.

Chief Inspector Colin Brown said: “This is a tragic set of circumstan­ces and our thoughts are with the families who have been affected.

“We are grateful to the support we are receiving from the neighbours while we carry out our inquiries.”

Kim Clark, a friend of Mrs Lockhart, said: “I am absolutely devastated. Will miss you and love you always and your beautiful baby, my son’s best friend.”

Ally Craig, 38, who lives just yards from the Lockhart home with his wife and two young children said that the incident was “devastatin­g.”

He added: “I’d seen the woman outside a few times, carrying shopping from her car with her son and we smiled at each other.

“The first thing I knew about it was when I got home and saw the police tape – I couldn’t believe it.” Our Version Of events biggest-selling took second 683,000 copies.
