SMRH eye repeat performance

Easternchampionship

- GARY HEATLY

SMRH skipper Brad Moses was delighted with his team’s performance last weekend – and is looking for them to be equally ruthless this afternoon in the Baillie Gifford ESCA Championship.

A fortnight ago SMRH’S good start to life following relegation was blown to pieces by leaders Glenrothes as they were 61 all out and lost by ten wickets.

The heads of the SMRH players could have gone down after that, but Moses and the rest of his side bounced back to inflict a similar defeat on Mazars Grange II themselves last week, Josh Chapman taking four wickets at Inverleith as they bowled the visitors out for 60.

SMRH came out on top by eight wickets and Moses said: “I thought that the Grange match would be a pretty tricky one as they have been going well this summer, but our bowling and fielding was as sharp as it has been in a long time. We are still in third place and I am pretty happy with things and the way they are going as we get to the halfway stage of the campaign. I am looking forward to the Holy Cross match today.”

Although it is an away match for SMRH they will not have to travel far with Holy Cross’s Arboretum ground just a stone’s throw from their home.

Glenrothes host second-placed Carlton II looking to keep up their unbeaten run. The first XI has barely changed for the Fifers this summer, but an injury picked up by Ben Wilkinson in a midweek T20 match means Guy Robinson comes in.

After their last-gasp win at Carlton II last time out, Stuart&stuart Penicuik are in good fettle as they prepare to welcome Marchmont to Kirkhill.

At Campbell Park, Murgitroy Masterton Trophy finalists Edinburgh are awaiting the visit of Murrayfield DAFS, the latter with just one league win to their name to date. Tomorrow sees fourth-placed Grange II taking on Freuchie in Stockbridge.
