Tide turning?

-

Whilst I wholly agree with Iain Mcmillan and his co-authors that the last thing Scottish business wants now is more uncertainty (Scotsman letters, 2 September) I think they are missing the point. The idea that the SNP remotely cares about the people of Scotland is seriously misplaced.

Their only aim is independence at any price. Had they had any interest in Scotland or its people they would not have misled them throughout the referendum. When Better Together challenged them on what they would do if the price of oil fell to $80 per barrel we were branded Project Fear. Of course we now know it to be Project Reality.

Nicola Sturgeon is an astute politician and she knows she has to keep the independence vision alive or she will be kneecapped, as Angus Robertson will be if he listens to his constituents on Brexit. Moray was evenly divided but you wouldn’t know it if you watched his feeble antics at Westminster.

Fortunately it looks, as it did for Scottish Labour, the SNP’S hegemony is dying. The redoubtable Douglas Ross slashed Richard Lochead’s majority from 11,000 to just over 2,000 at the Scottish election and if he stands for Westminster I suspect Angus Robsomething ertson may end up joining the Cairngorm Hundreds or whatever retired MPS join.

Who would have thought it a year ago? This is Ewing country and Dallas is in the constituency!

For Scotland, the country we all love, the demise of the SNP cannot come soon enough. MARK TENNANT
