RACE RETURNS

- By GORDON BROWN

Theflyingportrait bids for a repeat course and distance win in the £10,000 feature race at Perth today.

Trained in Staffordshire by Jennie Candlish, he faces five rivals in the Sodexo Prestige And Events Handicap Chase over two miles.

Either side of his 12-length Scone Park romp in late June he was operating over hurdles and now reverts to fences under regular partner Sean Quinlan.

Alan O’keeffe, partner and assistant to Candlish, said: “He enjoyed his last visit to Perth and did the job very well. He’s very consistent and was unlucky on a few occasions last winter – everything that’s beaten him has gone on to win more races.”

There are recent other winners up against Theflyingportrait and they include Nicky Richards’ Wot A Shot who chased him home in midsummer.

Regular Perth visitor Richard Johnson rocks up once again, this time for four rides and he kicks off with Lilywhite Gesture for Gordon Elliott in the opening Farmers’ Market Novices’ Handicap Hurdle.

At Windsor, Harry Angel should prove extremely hard to beat in the Oakley Court Maiden Stakes.

Clive Cox’s charge pushed Reach High all the way to the line and lost out by just a nose on his Ascot debut and can go one better this time.
