Fancy a whisky chaser?

● Tangolan has the spirit to lead – but no water, please

- By GORDON BROWN

June course winner Tangolan faces four rivals in the £15,000 Isle Of Skye 8yo Blended Scottish Whisky Handicap Chase at Perth tonight.

The eight-year-old is trained by Gloucestershire-based Fergal O’brien who said: “He wasn’t suited by the heavy ground at Killarney last time and ran no race.

He’s up in class but we’re putting the blinkers back on and he’ll bowl along and hopefully have his own way in front.

“We’re not wanting any rain but this could be one of his last runs before he goes point to pointing.”

Among the opposition to Tangolan is Mountain King, one of five rides for champion jockey Richard Johnson.

Theflyingportrait romped to an all-the-way victory in the Sodexo Prestige And Events Handicap Chase at Perth on Monday.

Trained by Jennie Candlish in Staffordshire, he slammed Endeavor by 11 lengths under regular partner Sean Quinlan.

Alan O’keeffe, assistant to Candlish, said: “He’s is really enthusiastic and his jumping is so good.

“His form is decent and most of the horses that beat him last season have been winning again. Sean gave him a great ride and got a breather into him.” Meanwhile, Qeyaadah should be an appreciably fitter horse than at Epsom in June when he aims to reach the winner’s enclosure in the Weatherbys Handicap at Leicester, writes Glendale.

Richard Hannon has always liked this Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum-owned three-yearold, who was considered good enough to run at Royal Ascot last year.

The son of Acclamation did not pull up any trees in the Coventry Stakes, though, nor did he really kick on in three previous runs last season.

Gelded over the winter, Qeyaadah showed a degree of vigour to finish third in a competitive seven-furlong handicap on his return to the fray at Epsom.

The expectation is that Hannon’s inmate will have improved a great deal from that outing and that he still has the scope to do a bit of damage this winter.
