Murder trial accused ‘admitted’ stabbing
A man accused of murdering Surjit Singh Chhokar admitted to his former sister-in-law that he stabbed him, a murder trial has heard.
The former sister-inlaw of Ronnie Coulter told a jury that he made the alleged confession when she visited him in Barlinnie prison.
Noreen Mcpolland , 54, was giving evidence at the trial of Coulter,48,fromwishaw,who denies murdering the restaurant worker – known by everyone as Chhokar – in North Lanarkshire, on 4 November, 1998, by stabbing him.
Ronnie Coulter has lodged a special defence to the murder charge and has blamed two other men.
The trial, before judge Lord Matthews at the High Court in Glasgow, continues.
