Cost of arrogance

-

The arrogance of the Scottish Government in redirecting council tax monies to other parts of Scotland in order to support a failing education service of their own making could be the final straw in the prolonged honeymoon period of some ten years that the SNP administration has enjoyed.

Taking additional money from those who have had the temerity to invest their earnings in assets could come back to bite them as up until now the law-abiding majority in Scotland have taken everything the Government has come up with to appease its support base with a resignation almost befitting lemmings voting to live on cliff tops.

However, what if those folk who are now to have their council tax increases redirected to other parts of Scotland – rather than augment their own local authority coffers to improve local services – were to withhold that, increase, citing it as undemocratic. I seem to remember a certain Mr Salmond deemed it perfectly acceptable for “criminals” who wilfully defaulted on tax payments because of a “point of principle” to be “pardoned”, thereby leaving councils shortchanged and the rest of the population fuming at having done the “right thing”.

Watch out – the worm may just be about to turn. STUART ROBERTSON
