Environmentality

-

Yet another article about climate change from Ilona Amos with her standard warnings of doom and destruction unless Scotland mends its ways (Inside Environment, 27 September).

She predicts flooding, the decline of native species, sea levels rising, invasive alien species appearing, and demands that the Scottish Government listens to the Scottish Committee on Climate Change, to ensure that all such risks are being managed.

But Scotland has already met its emission reduction targets four years ahead of schedule, so what is the problem?

Anyway, does Ms Amos think that what Scotland does affects the rest of the world, and will “guard against the long-term dangers from extreme weather and flooding in particular”?

Does she believe that Scotland’s further reductions can prevent flooding, hurricanes and famine in other countries?

The expense will certainly cause hardship in this country, if that makes her feel any better. MALCOLM PARKIN
