Call for Scots to support protection of fragile seas
Members of the public are being asked to back demands for stronger protection measures for Scotland’s seas as part of a consultation on how best to manage marine protected areas.
The Scottish Government recently launched a 12-week consultation, inviting advisory councils and key stakeholders to comment on proposals aimed at safeguarding fragile ecosystems.
There is currently no plan to open the consultation to the public.
However, Scottish environmental groups are now launching an e-action, calling for ordinary Scots to show their support for additional management measures in protected sites. Proposed measures include outlawing bottomdredging fishing gear in certain areas.
The online campaign goes live on the Save Scottish Seas website today.
