A 14-year-old girl died and three teenagers were seriously injured in a two-vehicle road crash.

The crash happened on the B9016 Keith to Buckie road near Rye Riggs, Aultmore, in Moray at around 10:38pm on Wednesday.

The four girls were in a black Vauxhall Corsa driven by a 17-year-old boy which was in collision with a grey Nissan Terrano driven by a 42-yearold man.

Both of the drivers suffered minor injuries.

Neringa Narusyte, from Buckie, died and another girl, also aged 14, suffered life threatening injuries and was to be transferred to Glasgow by air ambulance for treatment following the smash on Wednesday night.

Neringa’s mother Ilona said: “She was a lovely, nice girl. She was just a teenager. She’s always going to be loved and remembered. I still can’t believe that she’s gone.”

Shocked family and friends brought floral tributes to the family home yesterday as word spread throughout the close knit community about the crash.

The family moved to the Moray coast 11 years ago from Lithuania.

Neringa was a third year pupil at Buckie High School and had just started back at classes after the October holidays.

The family had recently visited England, where they posed for a picture on the London Eye.

Neringa is also survived by her older sister aged 17, a 10-month-old baby brother and her stepfather Colin Milne.

Police said two other injured girls, aged 16 and 17, were taken to Dr Gray’s Hospital in Elgin by ambulance after the crash and were believed to be in a stable condition.

Independent Buckie councillor Gordon Cowie said there had been several accidents on the road where the tragedy happened.

He said: “It’s a road you need to be very careful on.

“The road has claimed two or three lives in the past. I wouldn’t say it is a dangerous stretch but it is a road where you have to take a lot of care, there are a lot of bends on it.

“Our condolences go out to the family. We are thinking of them at this sad time.”

Sergeant Rob Warnock made an appeal yesterday for witnesses to come forward.
