Let’s all vote in Germany’s next election – it’s now the only one that matters

-

It is interesting that the trade mission the SNP has recently set up is in Berlin, not Brussels. I believe the idea is to persuade Germans that Scotland is “open for business”, which is a good idea as the economy under the SNP is decidedly sluggish and they may have thought that we had all died.

However, it is an acknowledgement that the power that rules the EU nowadays is Germany. Brussels is yesterday’s city and its powers are very much under Germany’s thumb. I am surprised, there- fore, that the SNP has not appealed to Germany to allow Scottish voters to be included in the German electorate, if they achieve their aim of abandoning their chief export market and destroying the UK.

The only elections that count are in Germany and Scots have no say in them.

Perhaps the question for the SNP to put on the ballot paper if they are allowed an Indyref2 should be “Should Scotland apply to be ruled by Berlin?”

ANDREW HN GRAY Craiglea Drive, Edinburgh I am one of the many people who voted to remain both in the EU and the UK.

Why does the First Minister continue to ignore the results of both referenda? I think she has at last acknowledged that the SNP wants independence no matter the cost to the Scottish people.

We do not want another referendum. Why doesn’t the Scottish government try to demonstrate that it can actually govern?

DAVID GEMMELL Sunningdale Lane, Dunfermline So, despite mounting evidence of looming disaster, the Little Scotlanders still want to follow the example of the Little Englanders and ditch a hugely beneficial union for the sake of so-called independence? “Those whom the Gods wish to destroy they first make mad.”

RODNEY PINDER Abbotsford Grove, Kelso

The PM should offer the Scottish Government the chance to negotiate the deal it wants, keeping Scotland as a special case part of the EU. In return, a written agreement outlawing any independence referendums for a generation. That would put the cat amongst the pigeons at SNP headquarters.

The SNP has been the dominating force in Scottish politics for the past few years. Only a short while ago its MSPS were in overall majority in Holyrood.

Their numbers have not diminished radically as a consequence of the most recent election, so the SNP must still be supported by the majority of the voting public. Reading the letters pages of The Scotsman, one could be forgiven for believing this was not the case.

Day after day after day the minority is allowed to pillory the Scottish government. In doing so, these correspondents portray all the unenviable characteristics they project onto our government’s politicians. BRIAN P DONALDSON
