LOOKS

Elegant from the exterior and every inch the executive barge. The estate model is less attractive from the rear than the saloon spec S90. Low height elongates an already long car making it appear concept-like and futuristic.

COMFORT/INTERIOR

The pick of the bunch interior wise. The leather trim and hand-finished wooden inlays are a delight to look at and material choice is top notch. The cabin layout is delightfully Scandinavian and feels airy without being sparse. The upright position of the infotainment system is a good choice and the system is a pleasure to use once you get used to the menu system.

DRIVING

Our test car was equipped with the187bhpD4f our cylinder diesel, which is plenty powerful enough if you’ re planning on using the car as a motorway cruiser. The low ride height and wide, expansive bonnet amplify the sensation that you’re piloting a yacht rather than driving a Swedish estate at times, but the steering is nicely weighted and you forget the car’s bulk on the open roads. The gearbox is smooth and extremely quietand three a 4 sheets’ worth of driver safety aids mean the Volvo is the safest of the bunch.
