Fon Williams ready to play in pain again

- By CRAIG FORBES

Inverness manager Richie Foran expects goalkeeper Owain Fon Williams to play through the pain barrier again this weekend.

The Wales international was a major doubt for Caley Thistle’s game against Hamilton last weekend but – in the absence of Ryan Esson and any other experienced options – he shrugged off back pain and helped the team to a 1-1 draw.

And with the back spasm still troubling him, Fon Williams will brave the Rugby Park artificial pitch to face Kilmarnock tomorrow.

Foran said: “Fon Williams had a jog on Thursday – he’s feeling okay. We will push him on a bit on Friday. Ryan has still got his groin strain so he’s struggling a bit, but we’ve got Dan Hoban there who can step in as a reserve if Fon Williams cannot make it. I’m sure he will be okay come Saturday. Not fully fit, but he’ll get through it.

“Fon Williams has been that good for us, he’s won us lots of points so we need him. Even at 70 per cent or 80 per cent he can still do a good job for us. We had a good chat with him and with the physios and doctors. He wants to play, train and be part of it.”

Foran added: “He was quite stiff come Sunday and Monday. On Tuesday he was still feeling it a wee bit. But if we can get him through December he’ll get a wee rest in January. Hopefully that can recover it. He wants to play, he’s a tough boy and it’s good to have him here.

“There will be no stopping him getting on that park. He’ll get through another training session and we’ll have to hold him back.”
