Plaudits for SNP

News that the Red Cross has described the disastrous NHS in England as facing a humanitari­an crisis should put carping about Scottish health, education, train punctualit­y or policing into some sort of context.

By any yardstick, the performanc­e of the Scottish Government is far superior to the previous Labour/ Lib Dem executive and miles better than in England under the Tories, Labour in Wales or in Northern Ireland who all, like us, now face unpreceden­ted challenges to public services from savage ongoing Tory austerity cuts. No government gets everything right, but the SNP is getting on with the day job and providing better services by focusing on improving our health and education services year-onyear, building more affordable homes, increasing the living wage, extending child care, closing the educationa­l attainment gap and extending community empowermen­t among other priorities.

£100 million of government spending on infrastruc­ture has been brought forward to stimulate the economy and the number of registered businesses in Scotland in 2016 was the highest on record.

That is why in the latest opinion polls the SNP remain 23 percentage points ahead of the Tories while Labour is languishin­g in third place on 15 per cent, so politicall­y motivated letter-writers should really change their stuck record as it is clearly
