Meryl Streep delivered an emotional speech at the Golden Globes in which she criticised Donald Trump for imitating a disabled reporter while campaigning to be president. @realdonaldtrump angrily replied: “Meryl Streep, one of the most over-rated actresses in Hollywood, doesn’t know me but attacked last night at the Golden Globes.” @jakern41 commended the actress for speaking out: “Meryl Streep made the Golden Globes so meaningful. Such a great speech. Heartfelt, poignant and politically on point. Well done. Loved it.” @Pacat15 added: “Meryl Streep is a national treasure. Trump is a national embarrassment.” @Mikepencevp, the vice president-elect, piped up: “Why isn’t Meryl Streep upset about Hillary bullying Americans, calling them deplorables, basement dwellers, super predators??”

The First Minister, who has been critical of Prime Minister Theresa May’s actions in the run-up to Brexit, said there wouldn’t be a new vote on Scotland’s future this year. @cghgreen said: “There will be no #Indyref2 this year, Sturgeon tells news – no great surprises there, 2018 far more probable.” @Scottories added: “Ruth [Davidson] on Sturgeon ruling out 2017 referendum: ‘This is an empty gesture from a First Minister who is leaving Scotland in limbo.’” @Millermattu was not surprised by the news: “Sturgeon rules out a 2017 referendum she was never going to hold. Roll on 2018.” @Davida phillips1 said: “Nicola Sturgeon is waiting until people see Brexit for the mess it really is, then she’ll have #Indyref2 in 2018.”
