United new boy Mikkelsen vows to wow fans with Fergie-style play

Thomas Mikkelsen has promised to become a hit at Dundee United by becoming a carbon copy of former Tannadice favourite Duncan Ferguson.

United’s new Danish striker is gearing up for his first start in tomorrow’s home clash with Queen of the South having signed on loan from Danish outfit Odense last week .

The 6ft 2in striker has a reputation for being fearless in front of goal and using his physical presence. He gave a glimpse of his ability when he came off the bench near the end of last Friday’s 3-0 defeat away to league leaders Hibs.

Mikkelsen, 26, knows fans’ favourite Ferguson struck fear into the hearts of defenders and the Scandinavian would love to follow in his footsteps.

“He was a great target man,” said Mikkelsen. “I hope I can get my team-mates to get in better positions and play them in with assists. I would like a lot of crosses and, if that happens, I can get a lot of goals. I am a physical player. I am very aggressive in the box and I go for every ball… well almost. I am also strong and can keep the ball.”

Mikkelsen is delighted to finally arrive on Tayside after United boss Ray Mckinnon was priced out of a move for him in the summer.

He added: “It’s great to be at Dundee United and I am looking forward to seeing the fans and them seeing me. I can then show them that I can score goals. If United were looking for me in the summer then I would have been interested.”

Meanwhile, United have had Stirling Albion forward Dylan Bikey training with them.

The French 21-year-old signed for the Binos from Dieppe in November on an amateur contract. Mckinnon said: “Dylan has been training with us and we will continue to monitor him.” 0 Thomas Mikkelsen: ‘Target man’ like Duncan Ferguson.
