Ford reveals more powerful redesigned Mustang

-

Ford has pulled the wraps off its new 2018 Mustang in Los Angeles, which the American manufacturer says will go on sale in North America this autumn. The updated pony car features a revised front and rear end design, which Ford claims delivers a “leaner and meaner look and refined aerodynamics”. Ford’s iconic 5.0-litre V8 has been completely overhauled for the new sports coupe, and is now more powerful and higherrevving than that found in any previous Mustang GT. The Blue Oval says the increase in power was achieved with the application of its new dual-fuel, high-pressure direct injection and low-pressure port injection on the V8 engine, allowing for improved fuel efficiency, greater power at the top end and improved low-end torque. Ford also promises performance gains for its 2.3-litre, fourcylinder Ecoboost engine, having calibrated its overboost technology to deliver more torque. New shock absorbers feature on all models of new Mustang, which Ford says allows for improved ride control. Lateral stiffness has been improved thanks to the addition of a new cross-axis joint in the rear suspension, while uprated stabiliser bars sharpen the car’s handling. Magneride damper technology is also being offered as an option as part of the Mustang Performance Package, improving the car’s ride and handling across the board. An active valve exhaust system is also an optional extra on Mustang GT models. Both Ecoboost and V8 Mustangs will now be available with a new 10-speed automatic transmission, while the manual transmissions for both models have been improved for optimal torque. New personalisation options are also being offered with the latest Mustang, with no fewer than 12 wheel choices and an all-new “Orange Fury” exterior colour. The new Mustang is expected to arrive in the UK towards the beginning of 2018.
